Deadmau5 - For Lack of a Better Name

Deadmau5 has released his second album For Lack of a Better Name, and I have a feeling it’s going to be rocking the club scene. Deadmau5’s debut album Random Album Title was without a doubt a great house album. It’s obvious that Deadmau5 wanted to go the safe route by not experimenting too much but rather focusing mixing different grooves to make it fit in well for a club atmosphere.

In For Lack of a Better Name, Deadmau5 obviously appears more comfortable, reveals more power, and become more experimental. The opening track “Fml” begins with epic percussion power, (probably influenced by the film 300), and leads to a thumping bass kick and synth shot. “Moar Ghosts N Stuff” starts out cheesy with a funeral organ, but then kicks back in to a great dance groove. With that track leading into the sequel tune “Ghosts N Stuff (Feat. Rob Swire),” it falls in to the taste of similar indie house group, Justice, which is actually a good thing… a very good thing.

The next track “Hi Friend!” is my favorite tune on the album. It is an irresistible hip house hop track that is guaranteed to get people to jump in the club. Tracks 5 through 8 pretty much follow the same formula as his debut album Random Album Title; the only difference is that the tunes are darker.

DeadMau5 - Takes Over O2 Academy

Dance music phenomenon Deadmau5 is confirmed to take over O2 Academy Brixton for a very special live performance on Friday 30th April 2010!

The last 2 years have undoubtedly been dominated by the Mau5! In 2008, the relatively unknown Deadmau5 became the highest new entry in the DJ Top 100 Poll, jump forward a year and following 2 hit singles, a sell out show at London's Roundhouse Theatre and memorable festival appearances at Reading, Leeds and the award winning Creamfields festivals, the mau5 has climbed the ranks even further sitting pretty at No.6. In fact, there are few artistes across the dance music spectrum that could lay claim to trailblazing a new electronic movement, however, Canadian born Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 is one such artiste.

Following a stratospheric rise to the top of dance music's highest echelons, this electro pioneer heads up a new breed of electronic artistes. Having mastered his trademark 'deadmau5' sound and renowned for sporting his infamous 'mau5head' fans the world over can't get enough of the mau5.

Performing live, his sets consist mainly of his own material, assembling tracks on the fly, using cutting edge computer technology, including software he's helped develop himself. As an artist that continues to strive to push the boundaries, this Brixton debut live performance is set to raise the benchmark for live events once again. This event will coincide with the May 2010 release of his first artiste album. The album will highlight his production talents as an artist and producer.

DeadMau5 Introduction

Joel Zimmerman was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on January 5, 1981. admau5', Zimmermans' DJ name, comes from an incident where a rat crawled into his computer and died. 'Dead Mouse' was too long for an IRC login name, so he abbreviated it to be the "leet speak" spelling "Deadmau5".During concerts, Zimmerman wears a trademark mouse helmet to go with his moniker. Comfortable with computers at an early age, Zimmerman started making music with trackers.

Before Joel hit to the top of the charts on Beatport in 2008, he explained to BBC 1's Pete Tong that, "I couldn't have done it without Melbourne's DJ Popeye. Liam's such a good bloke and his live shows really set a benchmark for what I wanted to achieve with my career... he's a real revolutionary within our music scene. I'd have to say he's probably my biggest influence"

Deadmau5 received two nominations for the Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2008 for a track with Billy Newton-Davis and Melleefresh. He did not win an award for Melleefresh's "After Hours" song, but he won the award for Newton-Davis' "All U Ever Want".[3] He was also named "Producer of 2007" by DJ magazine's 2007 Top 100 winner Armin van Buuren, and by runner up Tiësto. In 2008, he placed number 11 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, tying Infected Mushroom (2006) for the highest new entry in the poll's history, showing Zimmerman's fast rise to prominence. On May 1, 2008, Deadmau5 became the most awarded DJ/producer of the Beatport Music Awards. He was named "Best Progressive House Artist" by Beatport. In 2009, Beatport also awarded Deadmau5 the most awards that year, winning 1st place in both of his nominations, as well as being given the "Greatest House DJ Ever" award, two years in a row.

The video was directed by Colin O'Toole and stars English actor Stephen Graham. It was filmed in Manchester and features Graham's character talking to two young men about life and rave culture. The two young men then proceed to find a suitable venue for, what is later revealed to be, an illegal rave with Deadmau5 performing as the DJ.The video features a raver wearing a Kaskade t-shirt, and Deadmau5 wearing a YourOwnClothing t-shirt. At the end of the video, the Deadmau5 song "Brazil" is mixed in as an outro. Graham was almost arrested after police mistook the video for a genuine illegal rave. DeadMau5 - Talking About UK Tour

Well, as i could have imagined… the UK tour started out with a nice nice bang in Cardiff last night! Was good times indeed with you lovely lot… and i am absolutley in love with the new stage design… but im not in love with the idea that we have to lug that whole setup around for the rest of my natural life! What a friggen effort. seriously. 2 busses, a trailor, and a van rental just to haul crap around… 18 people… plus 3 hours of setting up and 2 hours of packing up again! But hey, it’s all totally worth it i think… the pixeladdicts really did an awesome job sourcing all the LED hardware and content… so.. kudos to them for making the show as cool looking as it is so far!

ther than that, im in good spirits, n good health n all that…. cept poor Chanel! shes managed to come down with a bug, so shes back at home getting herself some much needed zzzzz’s. Bless that woman! (get better luv!)

looks like ill be heading to manchester today to do an instore at HMV on market st. … you know… play a few choons, sign some stuff for you lovely lot, then back to the hotel to make myself not smell… maybe some zz’s… then off to the Warehouse Project with Chris Lake (Cakey) … can’t friggen wait to dig into a massive steak, then proceed to tell him how good it was. :D

WELL THEN! thats about it from me! im sure you’ll be hearing from me again soon…. im still wayy to stoked to get my damn Buchlas! buahahah PEWPEWPEPWEPWEPWEPWWEWWWWW!!!!

DeadMau5 - Keeps Evolving at TLA

In the modern dance-music world, you'd be hard-pressed to find a DJ more prolific than Deadmau5 (pronounced "Dead Mouse," pseudonym for Joel Zimmerman). Since debuting in 2006, the Grammy-nominated Canadian has found time to fit in eight albums, scores of singles and scads of remixes, constant world touring, and an iPhone application that allows users to remix exclusive Deadmau5 tracks on the go. Releases like Random Album Title and For Lack of a Better Name suggest he's been too focused on creating content to think much about labeling it.

Random - his third LP this year alone - brought him to the Theatre of Living Arts on Sunday night. And although it was his second appearance at the venue this year, many in the sold-out audience might not have known what to expect. Since Get Scraped in 2006, Deadmau5's brand of electronica has leaned most heavily on the mesmerizing thump and strophic grooves of the house subgenre. But it has continually evolved through touches of Jamaican dub and British dubstep, contemporary French electro and neoclassical minimalism, '70s funk riffs and Nintendo scores circa 1989.

But even then, it was only a matter of one form of entertainment beating the other. The pulsating mass of sweat-drenched bodies and neon glowsticks on the floor was just as fascinating as the sounds and sights onstage.
